i was on the leno show last night. sort of.

my friend's wife had vip tickets, but nobody to go with. since i'm now free during the day, and i've lived in la for 10 years and have never been to a taping of any show, i decided to go.

we had awesome seats. front row, about 6 feet to jay's right, as he delivers his monologue. we got to shake his hand when he came out at the beginning of the show, so i figured you'd be able to see me on the broadcast, since i'm taller than the rest of the crowd that was up there.

i caught a glimpse of the back of my head during the intro (it looked stunning), and then a split second of kim and me as we were sitting down (i was pointing at a pair of sunglasses that someone had dropped near the stage during the handshaking frenzy). woooopeeeee. oh well, stardom will have to wait, i guess.

the show was fun, though. president carter was the guest. he's actually pretty funny, and very dignified. they also had this cute little girl who knows everything about presidents. she was so excited to meet the president; she couldn't sit still during the interview.

i was amazed that they tape the whole thing in an hour. they don't re-shoot anything, and they only break for the real times for commercial breaks. that's a tightly run ship!

saw snatch last night. highly recommend, especially if you liked lock, stock and 2 smoking barrels (similar style, done by the same crew, with some of the same cast).

brad pitt is awesome in his role as a piker (english/irish gypsy), and the other characters are interesting and well-played. the plot unfurls non-linearly, a la pulp fiction, and is fun and engaging. many americans will find it challenging to understand quite a bit of the dialogue, though, as several varieties of british/uk accents are in full effect. definitely worth seeing, even with the ridiculous $9+ rates that la theaters are charging.

in related news, many of the national theater chains are having financial woes.

there's this new movie out called "antitrust" that's basically about microsoft vs. the open source community. silly premise for a big-budget hollywood movie, but it somehow got made.

from cnet's article on it: "The plot apparently goes something like this: The movie's computer-whiz hero, Milo, turns down launching a start-up with a friend and instead goes to work for the malevolent company, called Winston. He soon discovers the company's evil tactics and attempts to save the day." anyway, it's amusing to us here at work, since we're an open source company, and our ceo's name is winston... but i still don't think that's enough to make me see this movie; it sounds painful.
