open licensing is not the same as "open source".
(3:47:18 PM)
interesting article on pricing goods and services, and the history thereof. unfortunately, the black art that is pricing is now near and dear to my heart. finding that magical number where supply and demand curves cross is a tough task. i'm working right now on a presentation about pricing practices and options in software. it makes my head hurt.

went to my first kings game last night. had great seats (thanks, josh!), and it was a pretty exciting game. turns out that by attending my first game, i helped set the record for the largest attendance ever at an NHL game in socal, too. hockey is cool!

whew. it was just a bit breezy at my folks' place yesterday. haven't been in winds that strong in years, and hope to not be in them for years to come.

yet another article on the decline of e-consultants. usit down 100% for the year. ouch, my options!

scathing article on my favorite friends over at ecompanies. related to this puff piece on how sweet the 23 year-old cto of business.com is. more on this later.

"article" from collabnet's ceo extolling the virtues of open source.

va-linux is following the herd of companies that start off with a totally free service, and try to make it work for a fee. they're trying to get companies to pay them to set up and adiminister sourceforge installs for them. seems unlikely.
(7:22:03 PM)
hp has hired one of the big names in open source. looks like they're pretty serious about this whole "open source" thing.
(7:19:03 PM)
travelling to atlanta tomorrow and back on thursday night. apparently delta is having all sorts of flight cancellations, so we're flying american instead. all of american's flights from la go through dfw, so we have a stop-over. whee. i love business travel.
(2:28:44 PM)
wow, andersen consulting-- one of the biggest, oldest technical consulting companies around-- is changing their name to accenture. what a horrible, horrible name.
apparently, they were forced to drop the "andersen" by the court ruling in their case with former bunkmate Arthur Andersen. but accenture? c'mon, people! at least try!

interesting little piece on the continuing quest for anyone to show a profit on open source software.
(10:50:01 PM)
good article on open source software and patent law.
(10:48:14 PM)
sun recently took another step on its slow, grinding path to open-source java by getting its SISSL license declared open source compliant.
(10:42:10 PM)
whew. so time flies when you're having fun. or so i'm told. anyway, great things have been happening at work. progress with customers, partners, and investors. should be an awesome holiday season.
except for the part where my back is killing me. i'm now locked in a vicious circle where i can't exercise because it hurts my back, but my back hurts because i'm carrying too much weight around. and, since things are working are flying along, it's hard as hell to get to a witch doctor to do anything about the pain. arg.
